Celebrating the Holidays with a Birthday
I am one of those who are gifted with a (sometimes unfortunately timed) birthday that happens to split two major holidays, New Years and Christmas. This year I turned 21, and it has been quite the interesting experience.
To top everything off, two of my friends have birthdays just a few days from mine, and also turned 21 this year. Some people might find this incredibly fun, if it didn’t make for an exhausting week.
Most people have told me that drinking would be less fun once it was legal to do, but I’ve actually found it to be the opposite. I never wanted to drink when I was underage because I was always worried about getting in trouble, but now I can do it without suffering any consequences. If you ask me, that sounds like something to be fairly excited about.
Despite how expensive it might be to keep this up during the holidays, at least I don’t have to wait very long to experience my first 21-year-old holiday.
For my first excursion to the bars I went out with just my brother and both of our girlfriends. This experience was really something. The only comparison I could make that felt even reasonably accurate was in relation to video games. I had, in essence, unlocked the last restricted area. I could now reap every benefit available to me.
For those who aren’t of age, sitting at the bar on your 21st birthday is almost a surreal experience. I felt like I was part of some special club that had previously only been known to me because I’d heard about it from other people. However, I had never truly realized how special this club was until I had become a part of it.
The next day I went out with my friend for his 21st birthday. This is where I learned just how much of a lightweight I am after I vowed to not drink until I turned 21.
For those of you that are fans of the movie The Big Lebowski, you’ll be glad to hear that not only did I try out a white Russian, I have also decided that they’re one of my favorite drinks. If you’re wondering about taste, it’s similar to a milkshake. As far as drinks go, the Long Island iced tea also quite a tasty choice.
Now I get to look forward to New Years’ Eve tomorrow. Of all the holidays, I must say that New Years is probably on of my favorites. I enjoy getting together with friends and thinking about all of the wonderful memories we have formed over the past 365 days. Coming up with a resolution is always pretty fun as well, though I usually don’t keep up with them. Last year I took a resolution to blog at least once per day for a whole year, and actually managed to complete it. This year I’ve been thinking about trying to draw at least once per day, but we’ll see what I decide.
I must say, after all the celebrations I’ve had so far, I think I’ll be looking forward to the down time after the holiday more than the actual day itself.
